My 2 eldest granddaughters call me Gigi, the younger ones call me Grandma.

I wonder why?
Jack's younger sister calls us the same thing her older brother does.

I think Baba is a delightful name.

How the hell Jack came up with Baba, I have no idea.

Her parents were visiting and we all called her father Baba. He loved it!

I called my grandparents "Bubba and Pop" until they died (she at 89 and he at 95)-- I was well into adulthood by then. You are never too old to love and need your grandparents and to call them the names that harken back to childhood.

No idea where Bippee came from. My maternal grandfather passed when I was really young, but all my older cousins from that side of the family called him that as well.

Until I was maybe 18 and she decided then that she wanted to be called Grandmother. (She was not really the type, but we accommodated her.) She probably needed that respect because as the middle child in her family of five she was teased a lot. Her nickname from her big brother was "Botchy."

But I get why she thought GanGan was something she wanted all of us to outgrow.

After her example, my mom picked out Gram as her name (her grandmother had been Gran). I decided on Grana. (Short a).

I don't plan on outgrowing it.

Bubbie, traditional, Pi, 1 year old's version of Papa. My daughter thought is was cute so it stuck.

My daughter had her kids call my parents Oma and Opa. (She took 3 yrs of German in high school and we have a lot of Germanic genes on my side.)

The grandparents went on to be called Grandma and Grandpa.

But I have a cute story to tell about my now 50 year old niece when she was a tiny tot.

My dad's first name is Eddie (sometimes shortened to Ed). Niece also had an uncle named Eddie on her father's side. One day she heard my mom teasing my dad about being grumpy. Niece looked at him like she was thinking really hard, sortng out the multiple Eddies in her life, and then she said, "You're Grumpy Eddie!"

Dad absolutely loved it, and from then on, he was Grumpy to her.
