JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) A new law will be on the books come July 1,2016 that allows armed security in churches and allows people to carry holstered weapons without a permit.
Its been about 10 months since members of Mt. Helm Baptist Church in Jackson gathered to pray for Charleston, South Carolina.
Nine people died in Charleston when Dylan Roof entered Emmanuel AME Church and opened fire last June.
Since then, things at Mt. Helm are much the same.

(6,185 posts)1. So, what you're saying is a gun ban in churches didn't stop the Charleston killer?
Key word in that first sentence "allows".
Doesn't say "requires"
Doesn't say "encourages"
Just says "allows".
So why would anyone have a problem with allowing law abiding people a choice?
Unless of course they were busybodies that felt morally or intellectually superior and somehow that allowed them to tell others what was best for them?

what you think by reading the headline...
Pastor Rhodes says hes not opposed to security carrying a gun.

We could see a Charleston. Not because of this bill, because of all the things surrounding other legislation and attitudes in general, said Pastor Rhodes.

Pastor Rhodes says hes not opposed to security carrying a gun.
But, we dont want the whole congregation carrying guns to serve us, said Pastor Rhodes.

as I read it, they may choose to have armed security, allow everyone to carry or prohibit guns completely. Prior to this law, churches didn't have any option...
Point is, the Pastor is not concerned about the change in the law.
