I mentioned in a previous post that our cat Lizzie had a loose patella and the vet recommend consulting with a surgeon. Well, the doc recommended not doing anything about it. She said, actually both patellas were a bit loose, and of our gal is learning to deal with it, to just let her be. She says she talks a lot of people out of having surgery done. Yeah!!! That'll save us several thousand bucks!

(21,336 posts)Worked on large farm animals down to my dogs and cats. Very reasonable.
In the last 10 years I've seen a rapid escalation with the new practices in costs and expensive prescriptions. I think most of this is driven by VC chains. Profit over care.

(871 posts)I had surgery on both knees, and now one of them works. So, good outcomes for me were 50%, while lots of post operative pain was 100%. So, I agree with not putting your kitty cat thru it. Instead, invest in pet stairs and ramps to make it easier for her to move around.

(26,228 posts)Being an Abyssinian, she loves to be up high. She's real smart and knows her limitations. She'll look at my dresser and know she's not going to make it so she won't attempt the jump. It's got to be frustrating for her.
