Related: About this forumI just got a call from the vet's office
and Holly's ashes and memorial plate are ready for pickup. I'll have to get up off the couch, where I've been pretty much glued for two days, and go get them. I looked up the cremation place online and the plate seems to be not a 6" or so sized plate with the paw print in the middle, but just the size of her print. Whatever.
I am obviously not dealing with this very well. Thank goodness for Martini; having her and having to take care of her helps. Otherwise, I'd be in even worse shape than I am now. I'd probably never get off the couch.

(531 posts)We've lost many dogs and cats now. But it hurts so much every time. You reminded me of what we inscribed on our beloved yellow lab Tyson's urn -
If love could have kept you alive
You would have lived forever
I still tear up. I hope you can feel a little better today. It will get better. You are not alone. Hugs to you.

(117 posts)On your way, perhaps stop at any nearby department store and wander around in the kitchen goods area. I found a very nice porcelain container that served well for my Daisy. No, it did not come from my vet, but I did pick it out and now it's become 'special' for us. I glued the lid shut and the entire purchase and transfer routine became a shared memory (of sorts).

(2,403 posts)The loss of a beloved pet is absolutely heartbreaking. I hope you can take comfort in knowing you were a wonderful pet parent and gave Holly a life filled with love.
You are in my thoughts, MIButterfly.

(35,816 posts)The day that I found my very first kitty, Diamond Eyes, dead on the highway still seems like yesterday. I was eight years old. More than sixty years ago and I can still see her beautiful long grey coat and her bewitching eyes in my mind.
Nothing prepares us.
Be kind to yourself, MIButterfly. We love you.

(40 posts)I'm thinking of you as you are bringing your little Holly back home. You and Martini will need to love on each other in the days ahead.
Both our pets (one cat, one dog) are seniors. We know how incredibly fortunate we are that they are healthy so far. Your journey with Holly is a stark reminder of how quickly things can change. She was lucky to have such a caring human.
