Related: About this forumThis year's garlic crop looks like it will be terrific
LOTS of very thick stalks. I read that the perfect time to pull it is when the leaves are dried about 1/3 up the stalk, and that seems to always be a good measure. From what I see I think it needs another day or two before it's really ready to pull. Yesterday I pulled a couple and they are definitely useable, but I can tell it's not quite optimum.
I'll probably start pulling some in the south facing garden this weekend. The north facing stuff always needs a few more days but it's definitely getting there.

(28,585 posts)2. By happenstance, I was checking on my garden after a few days' absence

This is my small patch. Its very potent, however, so it lasts longer. These plants will do me the rest of the year. Im about ready to harvest the scapes and sautée them.

Usually for 2 to 3 weeks or until the stalks are dried up. Actually, clipping and cleaning the garlic bulbs is the more strenuous part of the process.
