Time to pull your turkey from the freezer

In my experience, a turkey takes at least a week to thaw, plus add a day or two for dry brining.

I didn’t actually have one in the freezer, but bought a frozen bird this morning and put it into the downstairs fridge. On a sheet pan, of course, in case of leaks.

Turkeys are still surprisingly cheap—I paid just under $1 a pound for a 14-pound bird. The rest of the Thanksgiving supplies came to around $130 between Aldi and Sam’s Club. That’s for an extravagant amount of food for 10 people, so not bad.

That is cheap. Of course they'll get you on the additional $25 minimum in purchases you must make at some places. But SWBTATTReg 8 hrs ago #1

still, that's a good price. I don't like the mess of fixing such a big thing, since there is only 2 of us and usually the place we hang out will have a nice Thanksgiving spread for all of us. But, I'm wondering if I should, for the heck of it, get a turkey, a small one, and do the routine.

Good luck on your bird!!

I haven’t seen those prices in my area. 98 cents at Sam’s Club was about as good as it gets.
