Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumThe new kitchen, almost done.
A month or so ago I posted about the joys of moving and having to supply your own kitchen in Germany. I said I would include some pictures of before and after.
It is functional. I combined some of our 4 year old IKEA kitchen with new IKEA cabinets. Kept the dishwasher but replaced the 10 year old fridge and went with a large oven, 36 inches. Along with the same size induction cooktop. Since IKEA doesn't do 90 cm, (35.6 inches) I had to order a cabinet from an other vendor.
Left to do is wait for the missing part of the counter top.
Set up a support for the drawer rail for the under sink drawer.
Hook up the under cabinet LEDs
Install the panels under the cabinets
Install the backsplash material
And decide on how to handle the storage of spices.
Oven, hood and cooktop waiting. Door goes to our balcony.

Some of the bits in the barren space

Getting there.

The other way

Nearly done.

Other view.

Now to get used to everything being backwards from the last kitchen.

(6,432 posts)Or flat is in. There is a children's play area there also. South facing so that is a plus. I may get to do a herb garden starting in the spring.

(6,432 posts)To have to supply your own kitchen. Larger rental market and landlords don't have responsibility for appliances. People here rent in places for longer time horizons. The place we moved out of had 2 tenants who had been there for 20 plus years.
Since we bought this we had an empty shell to work with and didn't have to toss or keep any thing that was there. This also extends to light fixtures in most rooms. All of our rooms had a light bulb hanging from the ceiling. Always attractive.
No that isn't a TV. The face of the hood. Although having a screen there for recipes would be nice. But then you need a way to upgrade without junking the hood every 3 years. I hope this is my last kitchen.

I will extend an invitation for anyone who happens to be in the Nahe.

(16,662 posts)I'm in a tear down so I can't do much but I want to replace my counters with butcher block and get induction cooking. The paint needs a refresh but that would be easy.
I love the look of what you've done
These are a laminate. I like the ease of care. In my old US home the laminate showed wear in heavy use areas after 20 years. I had one section of butcher block here and when it was unscewed from the base it warped. I found it to be a bit more fussy to keep up than laminates.
I love induction tops. Fast, easier to clean because the surface doesn't get as hot. For cast iron you need smooth bottoms or you could get scratching.
Prices for induction have come down depending on features. Plus if you move from a teardown you can take it.
