Related: About this forumThis day has started out BAD
I had a tele-appointment with my psychiatric NP at 8, this morning. When I called to check in, they discovered that someone had made a mistake and scheduled the appointment with a different NP. Bad timing. That church shooting has me in high anxiety. I'm from Grand Blanc and my brother, a school bus driver has seen that truck repeatedly driving by that church. Meanwhile, I was already deeply stressing about the nightmare that is smothering this entire nation. I struggle to see any thing of hope on the horizon.
They were VERY apologetic and are sending in refill requests for my medications. The appointment is rescheduled for next Wednesday.
I'm actually shaking so I think that means it's time to take a chill pill.

(933 posts)Give yourself positive energy, sit in sun, walk a quiet park, music, whatever soothes your soul, do it. Theres light in the day ahead. Stand in it. Soak that, not this negativity. ❤️

(27,730 posts)She's from Humboldt County, CA and we only get to see each other about once a year. She's also a childless cat mom and knows me better than most people.
And I have my kid cats to distract me. Merlin has been especially attentive.
My dad was a Marine veteran. I'm a Navy veteran. When veterans do things like this it feels like it's personal. I fear that with all of the cutbacks in the VA, this is just going to become more and more common.
And I can tell you that the people in the Grand Blanc community are shaken to their core. It's a quiet community. My niece was close enough to hear the gun shots. My brother thinks that truck was the one he saw, several times, aggressively driving past that church. It's on his bus route. All of this is just hitting me on a multitude of personal levels.

I'm getting the house ready for my best friend's visit (she gets here on Wednesday) and have no doubt that Merlin will be attentively underfoot for the entire day.
Even Carys let me give her scritches, this morning.

(1,678 posts)As we have discussed before I am also from the area. I know that area very well. I went to Holy Redeemer for grade school, and had friends from high school who lived just around the corner from the LDS church. I know there are a lot of white supremacists in Burton. I overheard a couple of guys at a Speedway (across from HR) complimenting each other about their Aryan Nation tattoos, a few years ago. I was pretty shook from that. This is getting long, I just want you to know that I also am feeling the too close to home right now. Stay well and focus on you and the kidcats today. Hugs!
I'm a Grand Blanc alum and lived there for most of my life, both in the township and city. I had many friends who lived in that area.
And I agree with you about Burton. My brother says the air just crackles with an underlying anger.
Today I read that the Meijer on Center Road received a bomb threat, yesterday. That's not far from where the killer lived.
I keep thinking, were those threats just a distraction or what if he's not a 'lone wolf'.

(1,678 posts)He and his wife apparently work with/for my brothers business. Im not sure he was there still, but his wife is. He is the cousin of people I went to HR and Powers with, who are my brothers business partners. I know they are all (unfortunately, my brother, too) hardcore cult members. He apparently was very angry about what happened in Utah, and had been hunting in the morning beforehand. This is all from my niece, who knew him and his family well. Crazy as hell. Of course, my brother has not said a peep in our family text thread. I got the scoop from one of my sisters. So yeah, that happened.

(7,901 posts)One thing that helps me is to focus on something positive, even if it's a small thing. Our cats, flowers in the yard, anything, no matter how small, that I can feel good about.
Hang in there, you're not alone.
