(2,076 posts)...try to prove it to others (and themselves) by demonizing and attacking others who represent and who have what they wish they were strong enough to have for themselves? Or something.
The obsession with policing consenting adults is usually just a noisy, desperate attempt to drown out the voice in their own head. They are not fighting a culture war; they are fighting a losing battle against their own denial.
It is honestly impressive how much effort they put into 'saving' everyone else from a lifestyle they seem to spend an awful lot of time thinking about. You really have to wonder: why is their own sex life so boring that they have to live vicariously through ours?

(23,052 posts)But I think there are also some who fear that there's some kind of mysterious "contagion"
in the air that may turn themselves or their kids (especially their kids) gay or trans. There seems to especially be a lot of paranoia pately about kids turning trans just because they think it's trendy or something. (Which is of course utterly ridiculous, but that is a thing that is going on with some right wingers, unfortunately.)

Right now your tax dollars are being taken from legitimate research and going towards people with no real qualifications who claim to be studying this hooey. That will provide more justification for policies and legislation outlawing access to age-appropriate health information, depictions of diverse families, and rethug-led hypersexualization of minors, especially girls.

(1,124 posts)If we ever got a handle on what people do to other people against their will, I might start getting interested in what the consenting adults get up to. But since that ain't happenin' in my lifetime and probably not in my grandchildren's (if any) lifetime...
I don't care if somebody wants to sleep with Florida grapefruit. As long as that grapefruit is an adult consulting grapefruit, this is not my business and not my problem. They can go ahead and have at it, as far as I'm concerned.
Since I'm a little old silver-haired lady, this generally shocks the hell out of them.
