Sonoma County readies for its first-ever Dyke March

Petaluma resident Pam Adinoff and Nancy Kelly, from Durham, North Carolina, have been enjoying a bicoastal relationship for the past five years. Now they are turning their well-established partnership toward organizing Sonoma County’s first-ever Dyke March and street fair, scheduled for Sunday, June 21, in Santa Rosa.

It was while watching a film several months ago, “Lesbians in Boystown,” which explored the history of dyke marches, that led the couple to decide the time was right for dyke visibility in the North Bay.

Adinoff’s reaction to the film, Kelly, 68, said, was, “Let’s do this.”

“Seeing this made me realize how important it is for lesbians, queer people, and the sapphic community to be visible,” Adinoff, 72, explained, referring to the umbrella term for women-loving-women that includes lesbians, bisexuals, and trans, nonbinary, and queer people.
