The Israeli government said Thursday that Donald Trumps plan to relocate nearly two million Palestinians from Gaza is still active, despite widespread opposition from U.S. allies and warnings from rights groups that it would constitute a war crime.
President Trump has made clear that plan is most definitely still active, Israeli government spokesperson David Mencer said in response to a question from The Independent about the plans status.
We think it's a good idea. The Prime Minister has praised the idea. It's certainly out-of-the-box thinking, he added.
The White House did not deny the plan was still a possibility when asked by The Independent.
President Trump has long advocated for creative solutions to improve the lives of Palestinians, including allowing them to resettle in a new, beautiful location while Gaza rebuilds, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said.

(3,242 posts)How disingenuous of the Israeli government spokesperson. Expelling Palestinians from "The Holy Land", including Israel proper, is the dream of Zionism since the founding of Israel and certainly of Netanyahu and the religious nationalist extremists he is beholden to.
In fact a recent poll indicated that 82% of Jewish Israelis support the "transfer" (expulsion) of Palestinians from Gaza to other countries. Further, 56% even want the same for their OWN Palestinian citizens.
Trump did not come up with the "transfer" idea on his own. He is just doing Netanyahu' bidding according to Israeli popular opinion.
But this "while Gaza rebuilds" is a new one. Plausible deniability of ethnic cleansing. Who seriously thinks Palestinians will be allowed back in after the Israeli settlers have taken it all for themselves? Did it happen in 1948, 1967 or in the decades of confiscation and dispossession since?
That's the end goal of this "war" - annexation and resettlement. The Gaza Riviera/Kushner Resorts shiny object is just distraction and obfuscation.

(25,951 posts)There's not much difference. And no, once they leave, they'll never be allowed to come back to their homeland.
Bibi and Bozo are two of a kind. No empathy. The sociopaths are completely unable to think how they would handle putting themselves in the same position of other people.

(3,242 posts)Deportation is removal from a sovereign territory, which Gaza is not.
I don't know if "resettlement" can be applied to a group that has been ethnically cleansed. Made into permanent refugees from their homeland - again - is more apt.
Resettlement however, would apply to the masses of Jewish Israeli settlers who would take over Gaza in some biblical/religious "coming home" scenario. There were settlers in Gaza up until 2005 or so, when Israel made them leave Gaza. So - resettlement for them.

(4,409 posts)Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clashed with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir at a cabinet meeting Thursday night after the general appeared skeptical about a plan to move Gazan civilians to the south of the Strip and lay siege to its north, Hebrew media reported Friday.
According to quotes from the closed-door meeting reported by Channel 12 and Ynet, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich accused Zamir of not following orders and leading to a stalemate in Gaza.
Zamir was said to have responded: You always say there is a stalemate in the Strip. There is no stalemate in the Strip were doing exactly what you tasked us with. I suggest people watch what they say about us, supposedly not doing what we were tasked with. You certainly dont need to be reminded that we have soldiers dying in battle.
