Related: About this forumKremlin Just Did The Unthinkable. - The Russian Dude
Russias 2026 budget exposes one of the most shocking financial decisions in modern Russian history: the Kremlin is now borrowing money from the future to fund todays war. The Ministry of Finance openly digs into generations that havent been born yet, selling off Russias tomorrow to pay for a war that is destroying its present. This budget isnt about stability or growth it is a confession of collapse. A state drowning in expenses, raising taxes on everything, borrowing at insane interest rates, and quietly admitting that the war is nowhere near ending.
The so-called three-year plan for 20262028 is pure fiction, a fantasy built on numbers that will be rewritten within months, just like every previous year of the war. The deficit is spiraling, debt payments are exploding, and Putins regime is recreating a Venezuelan-style economic collapse despite sitting on massive oil and gas revenues. Oil income is falling, investment is dying, and the government is desperately taxing imports, small businesses, used cars, kiosks, and anything else it can find. With Russia cut off from global markets and forced to borrow internally at 15% interest, nearly the entire 2026 deficit will be spent just servicing old debt. This is financial self-destruction disguised as patriotism. The Kremlin is burning the countrys future in order to burn Ukraines present, pushing Russia into a wartime economic abyss that will last far beyond the war itself.
This video breaks down the collapsing three-year projections, the spiraling deficit crisis, the cracking illusion of prosperity, and the dangerous shift toward a Venezuelan-style meltdown all driven by Putins decision to destroy Russias future to keep an unwinnable war alive.

(4,775 posts)2. Their economic collapse has been "imminent" for years yet to the degree they can rewrite the rules, they survive.
Their being cut off from the world banking and trade system allows them to, at least internally, rejigger as needed as the normal economic guardrails do not exist for them. As long as they can feed themselves and keep the lights on, however limited the food choices and despite some brownouts, Putin can likely remain in power. Also assumes the vodka keeps flowing but if you have grain for bread the distilleries can go full tilt. North Korea has been in this or an even worse economic pit for decades and yet somehow survives to be a thorn in Asia's side and so we have Putin's Russia on the European side of things. Iran is similar too.
