Russias greatest weakness isnt sanctions, inflation, or even the war in Ukraineits a devastating demographic collapse that is shredding the nation from the inside. For decades, Russias population has been shrinking, but Putins war turned a slow-motion crisis into a death sentence. Millions fled after the Soviet collapse, birth rates plummeted, and now the war has erased an entire generation of young menkilled, crippled, or exiled. The Kremlin pretends to care, offering laughable incentives and propaganda campaigns for more children, while at the same time sending the very fathers of those future children to the trenches. Each coffin from Ukraine is more than one life lostits a family tree cut down forever.
This isnt just about pride or statistics, its about survival. Russias pension system is collapsing, its workforce is shrinking by double digits, and its future is evaporating. Economists call it a population cliff, and Russia is sprinting toward it with no way back. The so-called empire that dreams of ruling for centuries might not even be able to guarantee pensions in twenty years. Putin claimed demography was his greatest fearyet he created the war that guarantees Russias extinction.
This video breaks down how Russias vanishing nation, the war on its own future, the Kremlins false cures, and the looming pension time bomb are pushing the country toward irreversible decline. Putins worst fear has come true, and history wont count Russias parades or propagandait will count its people. And Russia is running out of them.

(97,880 posts)That could happen is for that country to fail and split into five or six countries with help from the rest of the world in getting their governments and industries up and running.

Until Trump, we were one of the few countries not suffering population loss because of immigration. Immigrants, far from being a crisis, have been in fact our savior. They pay into Social Security (whether or not they are legal and able to ever receive benefits) and grow the economy. They do the jobs Americans don't want to do, keep food/hotel/construction/manufacturing prices low with cheap labor, and consume resources which provides enough demand for Americans to get better jobs.
I heard on a radio show a RW group dedicated to solving the population problem by convincing women to have more babies. I don't know but I'm guessing this is aimed at White women. But they are deluding themselves that a sufficient number of women will sacrifice their careers to be having babies for decades, while the world offers limited hope to their children. My daughter is wondering whether she wants to bring children into this world. Solve the Climate Crisis and then we can have a conversation. The end of democracy is a non-starter.
The way to encourage a higher birthrate is a promising future--environmentally, economically, politically.
The way to end abortion is exactly the same.
Heroic movements and restrictive laws aren't nearly as effective because they require suffering and sacrifice while ignoring the source of the problem.
Immigration cannot save us forever from a worldwide population decline. But for a time, perhaps enough time to address the problem, we could be sheltered from it while offering respite to desperate people fleeing horrific conditions. Trump is destroying the exact solution to our problems in his war on immigrants, just as Putin is destroying his dream of restoring Russia by waging war on Ukraine.
But there we have it. Putin is Trump's teacher. This OP is important. Putin's Russia is our future under Trump. American's need to be educated what that looks like, now and for our children.
