WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement on Tuesday’s election results:

“Across the country, voters rejected chaos and rising costs, and chose candidates committed to making life affordable again for working families. As the longest government shutdown in American history continues, this is a wakeup call: the American people want affordable health care and fully funded public services, and it is time for Congress to deliver.”

AFSCME's 1.4 million members provide the vital services that make America happen. With members in communities across the nation, serving in hundreds of different occupations — from nurses to corrections officers, child care providers to sanitation workers — AFSCME advocates for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services and freedom and opportunity for all working families.
