Judge rules: Trader Joe's must bargain
From email.
Over two years ago, crew members at the Louisville Trader Joes voted to form a union. Thats when corporate kicked off their favorite tactic: delay, delay, delay.
They threw their massive legal budget at trying to stall certification, hoping they could drag things out long enough to overturn the results or quietly push out enough union supporters to tip the balance.
But this week, we won a major victory. Administrative Law Judge Sarah Karpinen ruled that Trader Joes broke the law by refusing to bargain with us, and ordered them to begin negotiations immediately. In her words: An employer is not relieved of its obligation to bargain with a certified representative pending Board consideration, or reconsideration, of a request for review.
This ruling is proof that when workers organize and fight back, we win. But heres the truth: theres stores across the country where they could use these very same tactics against our efforts to unionize blocking elections, refusing to acknowledge results, and spending millions on union-busting lawyers.
Thats why we need your help. Your grassroots contributions fuel the legal fights that make sure our rights are enforced and that corporate cant get away with ignoring the law. Can we count on your support today? This legal victory shows that we will win, if we fight >>
