Florida man found lying shirtless outside school flees into alligator-infested canal, deputies say

PALM COAST, Fla. (WFLA) — Body camera video shows a man who was arrested after he fled into a canal in Palm Coast and battered the deputies who pulled him out, according to authorities.

A deputy located a man, who was the subject of a previous welfare check, lying on the ground shirtless in front of Wadsworth Elementary School on July 3, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy attempted to check on the man, but he fled on foot, according to FCSO.

Deputies found Ryan McMinn, 47, near a canal behind the residence and asked him if he needed assistance, FCSO said. He then ran into the canal, which deputies said is infested with snakes and alligators, and began swimming.

Body camera video shows deputies commanding that McMinn leave the canal, but he started to tread water and showed signs of exhaustion, according to the sheriff’s office. ...............(more)
