Man driving lawnmower on highway arrested for DUI

TAMPA, Fla. — A man was arrested after he was found driving under the influence on a rather unusual mode of transportation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Multiple people reported seeing a man identified as 38-year-old Christopher Spain driving a lawn mower erratically around 8:30 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of Suncoast Parkway.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper found Spain after monitoring his driving pattern and location on traffic cameras. He spotted Spain on the shoulder of the road just south of U.S. Highway 98.

“He was just traveling on the lawnmower as a form of transportation," a spokesperson for FHP said.

The trooper said he immediately observed several signs of impairment, such as small pupils, flushed skin, dry mouth and irritation to the inside of his nose. ...................(more)
