iPhone is easy to use and even easy to master if you take photos and then study them. What looks "right" and what is off just a little bit.
A good photo is not easy no matter what camera you are using. If you are going out with your friends and snapping 5 or 10 photos and taking 30 seconds to aim the camera and then go on to the next shot --- well one of 500 will be worth printing.

Rather, plan to spend a few hours on one subject.

And no, the camera doesn't really matter. When I feel up to it, I put $4k of stuff in my car and go to a preserve or scene. But the photo I made the most money off of was taken with an iPhone 5 It is a random shot of a lighthouse that I took on an impulse on a cloudy night in October, several years ago.


Then there's the weddings. I hate them and have been pressured to do only three. All turned out well because I took about 200 shots at each wedding and 5 ended up being worthy of print. BUT THE COUPLE WERE MORE THAN HAPPY WITH THOSE 5 or so.

Portrait --- I take the camera and make a fuss of focus, setting the tripod and as much fuss as I can conjure. With that, I take about 5 photos, smile and announce, "Ok." Then I IMMEDIATELY take two or three more as they quickly relax. The last five are usually the best of the lot.

My best advice. Take a photo. Study it. Then take it again.

And all of that takes time.

of the tree, a pine or fir I cant tell. Different angles, different times of the day. I try to avoid the condo's behind it and I don't know why but that tree calls to me...
