Windows 11 desktop Bitlocker recovery issue
I recently had a power outage with my desktop still running. When I powered it back up, I got the Bitlocker recovery screen. I managed to get the recovery key on another device but when I went to type it in, I discovered the keyboard didn't work. Turns out this is a known issue with Windows 11 whereby USB devices don't work during recovery. Desperate, I powered it down and powered it back up while hitting the F12 key to get to the BIOS menu. First thing on the BIOS menu was "Windows Boot Manager", which I selected and hit "enter" on. The desktop started normally. I even did a restart and it restarted normally. Is there anything I should be worried about or is this just the new protocol for power outages?

(19,890 posts)Specifically about power outages but I've had the odd glitch - ie a program or game that freezes and I have no option to pull the plug. I find Win 11 to be remarkably stable and self-healing. If it's all running well it will probably be the end of the issue.

But have to go through that every time I start it now. I took it to Best Buy they want $175 just to look at it and more
if it needs parts. The computer only cost about $300. I am going to try a local shop and see what they say. This all started
about a week ago had no power outage.

(13,800 posts)I thought I was doing something clever with the BIOS but that may have been irrelevant.
