Trouble with Apple iPhone updates?

A friend who follows tech, reports that there are problems with a new update. He advises turning off automatic updates until it is sorted out. Somehow this doesn't make sense. BY now, there would likely have been news releases about such problems.

Anyone else here of such problems?

But somehow I was able to get it to work again.

To clarify—I haven’t updated to 18.7 yet. Also lots of other users reported the same problem at the support forum on the Apple site.

What kinds of problems are you hearing about?

There are two updates.

1. A security/bug fix release called 18.7
2. A major "liquid glass and the kitchen sink" upgrade called ios 26.
It is much larger, so check memory and compatibility.
Apple is changing its versions to the calendar year.

I looked for 18.7 (the ipad is bugging me) but found no reported bugs. They only talk about "bug fixes" in it, but you know .... new bugs creep in.

Same will be true for 26,

As I’m sure you do as well. For phone users in general, major releases at the dot-zero level are almost always buggy. Super good idea to wait for a patch or two before installing it.

Apart from it taking about an hour, I’ve had no problems so far.

I probably spent an hour setting up various new feature. One i think I will particularly like is that you can set it to answer calls from non-contact numbers for it to ask who’s calling and the reason for the call. If they dont provide the info, they are disconnected and the phone never rings! Also, if you’re stuck on hold, you can hang up and the phone will keep you in the queue and call you when someone is available on the other end. Supposedly, it gives them a message you will join briefly. It will be interesting to see if they’ll wait.

For those who use snooze, you can customize the snooze period for 1 to 15 minutes. You’re not stuck with the 9 minute one.

There are several new cosmetic options.

I also upgrade my iPad. So far, things looks similar to the iPhone update.

the update carried over to it. It looks different, but for the most part, it works the same. I understand there are a few minor tweaks to features.
