Second female jockey wins Melbourne Cup

I posted here ten years ago when the first female jockey won the cup. That jockey, Michelle Payne was there today to greet Jamie Melham today's winning jockey after the race as a very exclusive club of two.

They call it the 'race that stops the nation' - and it does. We in Victoria have a public holiday for a horse race and no-one's complaining.

Jamie rode a beautiful race. It's for stayers; 3,200 metres or 2.5 miles. Only the best of the best qualify. The track was very heavy - spring rains have set in. Luckily there were no falls or accidents and everyone and their horse finished safely.

Jamie Melham has become the second female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, riding Half Yours to a famous victory at Flemington.

The win comes 10 years after Michelle Payne's breakthrough triumph on Prince Of Penzance, and makes Melham the first female jockey to complete the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double.

It's an incredible spectacle. I don't bet, but always try to watch.

Edit - found this. Start on the straight on the left then two circuits.
