No surprises in Piedmont election

PIEDMONT, W.Va. (WV News) - There were no surprises in the Piedmont town election Monday, with only two unopposed candidates and two official write-ins.

City clerk Sharon Shumaker confirmed Tuesday that Ronda Niland had received 52 votes in her bid for mayor, and incumbent Terry LaRue garnered 50 votes in his bid for re-election to the council.

The two write-in candidates were incumbent Beverly Noonan, who received 24 votes, and newcomer Denison Powers, who received 10 votes.

The council had previously declared resident Jesse Ridings, who had filed to run as a write-in for council, as ineligible because he does not fulfill all the requirements set forth in the city charter.
