A parking lot near the University District light rail station could become a mid-rise apartment building

A parking lot steps away from the University District light rail station could become a seven-story apartment building, according to permit applications that advanced in late June.

The 4,100-square-foot parking lot is operated by Diamond Parking, which sits next to the 1960s-era Buccaneer apartment building.

Across the street is a multilevel parking garage owned by the University of Washington.

Seattle lawmakers upzoned the U District neighborhood, enabling high-rise development and prompting a flurry of residential construction in the area.
