Longtime Washington State Democratic Representative Larry Springer won't seek reelection in 2026

The most senior member of the Eastside of King County’s Washington State House delegation, who has been in office since January 2005, has decided against seeking another term and will be departing the Legislature at the end of this year.

Larry Springer, seventy-nine, said in a news release that the time has come to retire.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Kirkland and the 45th District,” said Springer. “When I was first elected to the legislature in 2004, I made a promise to work hard, listen closely, and never stop fighting for the families and small businesses that make our communities strong. I am proud of what I have accomplished over these many years, and grateful for the partnerships and friendships made along the way.”

Springer has been in leadership for more than half of his tenure in the Legislature, having been chosen as a Deputy Majority Leader over a decade ago. He has remained in that role through turnover in other leadership positions, including Speaker and Majority Leader. Now Sharon Tomiko-Santos, Timm Ormsby, and he are the caucus’ most senior members. Ormsby, who heads the Appropriations Committee, is also retiring this year.
