Tiny home village planned for Seattle site once eyed for pickleball hotel
The city of Seattle is moving forward with plans to build a tiny home village on a site formerly slated for a pickleball hotel.
Mayor Katie Wilson announced at town hall meeting Wednesday that the city had secured a lease on vacant land in the Interbay neighborhood. She said the tiny home village will provide shelter for dozens of homeless residents, describing it as part of a broader push to rapidly increase emergency housing capacity across the city.
Plans call for the 1.24-acre site at 1551 W. Armory Way to accommodate up to 75 people in individual 70-square-foot shelters. Charles Wathen, president of Honolulu- and Denver-based consulting and development firm Wathen & Associates, is listed as the taxpayer for the property.
The city has contracted with Everett-based Pallet to construct the units, which are expected to cost about $28,000 each, according to city records. Based on that figure, the shelters would cost $2.1 million.
