Paul Allen's estate launches science and tech fund with $3.1 billion endowment
Late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is continuing to make an impact in Seattle and beyond.
On Wednesday, the Allen estate launched the Fund for Science and Technology (FFST) with a $3.1 billion endowment. The nonprofit foundation will fund organizations in bioscience, the environment and artificial intelligence, with a goal to give at least $500 million over the next four years.
There has always been urgency in science, and we have a mandate to drive change that leverages science and technology for the greater good, FFST CEO Lynda Stuart said in a news release. The foundation will work to tackle some of the worlds biggest questions, and were eager to dive in with our grantees and partners to advance the frontiers of science and technology.
FFST is starting with $15 million in grants to local organizations: Benaroya Research Institute, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Seattle Children's and the University of Washington College of the Environment.
