Strike delays start of classes in southwest Washington school district

UPDATE 8 p.m., Aug. 31: The Evergreen classified workers strike will continue until further notice, as union members and Evergreen Public Schools have yet to agree on a contract.

Members of Evergreen chapter of Public School Employees of Washington rejected the district’s latest offer Friday afternoon and have pledged to continue striking until a fair agreement is reached.

The district has confirmed school will be closed on Sept. 2 and has not announced a new start date. The district will provide daily updates on its website regarding school the next day.

Families and leaders of Evergreen Public Schools in southwest Washington hope students will return to school on Tuesday after a week-long delay due to a classified workers strike.
