Jay Jones projected to win Va. Democratic nomination for attorney general

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2025/06/17/virginia-primary-election-2025/

RICHMOND — Former Norfolk delegate Jerrauld C. “Jay” Jones won the Democratic nomination for Virginia attorney general while the party’s choice for lieutenant governor was too close to call Tuesday night, according to election results projected by the Associated Press.

The winners will join gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger in pivotal fall elections that will be watched as an off-year referendum on President Donald Trump and on Virginia’s own ambitious Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R), who is term-limited out of office.

The races are all but certain to make history by producing Virginia’s first-ever female governor, with Spanberger facing off against Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R) at the top of the ticket.

Earle-Sears, a Jamaican immigrant, would be the first Black female governor of any state if elected in November. If he wins in the fall, Jones would be the first African American to serve as the state’s attorney general. John Reid, the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor, would be the state’s first openly gay statewide elected official. And Attorney General Jason S. Miyares (R), seeking reelection, is the first person of Hispanic descent to serve as the state’s top prosecutor.

Virginia’s statewide candidates run individually, not as a slate, so November’s elections could result in cross-party combinations.

We should be in good hands with Jay Jones and Abigail Spanberger.

Lt Gov is too close to call yet.

I saw elsewhere that Stoney didn’t get the most votes even in the city of Richmond. I thought he was an establishment pick (McAuliffe).

Shannon Taylor shocked me. She’s flooded the ads we've seen (Sling TV) and I hadn’t seen a single as for Jones.

Maybe she advertised heavily where she’s already elected. Seems crazy.

Hashmi (Chesterfield) apparently did very well in Central VA/Richmond area. The consensus I heard this morning was that the water crisises (2) did in Stoney around here. It was JUST after he left office but it was seen as on him.

a staunch Republican, put a Facebook post up deriding Stoney and asking no one to vote for him. She lives in Richmond.
