McKinney council calls runoff election for mayor, at-large seat

n a special meeting held May 14, McKinney City Council members canvassed election results from the May 3 election and called a runoff election to be held in June.

Results from the runoff election will determine the race for McKinney Mayor and the At-Large 1 seat on McKinney City Council. Early voting will run May 27-June 2 and election day will be held June 7.

According to final election results from Collin County, Cox received 8,957 votes, representing 46.78% of votes cast and Sanford received 7,813 votes, representing 40.81% of votes cast. Neither candidate received more than 50% of the total votes cast which was the threshold required to win the four-candidate race.

Lynch received 5,027 votes, representing 29.33% of votes cast and Garrison received 3,422, representing 19.97% of votes cast. The race featured five candidates and also required more than 50% of votes cast to win.
