New Washington County election administrator is on the job

The new administrator of elections now has his first meeting of the Washington County Election Commission under his belt.

Chuck Vest, who resigned as mayor of Jonesborough earlier this month to take the job, told election commissioners at their monthly meeting Wednesday he was excited about assuming the position. Monday was his first day on the job.

“I love the electoral process and I look forward to making sure that Washington County continues to have fair and accurate elections,” Vest said. “I grew up in an athletic world, playing sports. The one thing you learn about playing sports is that you can try as hard as you can to beat the other person, but you always follow the rules and you are always fair in playing the game.”

The new administrator said state election officials have set up training sessions for him. Vest said he hopes to have his state certification by the end of the year.
