Chris Bizzell appears to win Folly Beach mayoral election in runoff

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) — (UPDATE, 10:00 p.m.) — Folly Beach voters elected their first new mayor in more than a decade on Tuesday, selecting Chris Bizzell to succeed longtime Mayor Tim Goodwin.

Unofficial results show Bizzell defeating Elton Culpepper in a runoff election. Goodwin, who has served as mayor for about 10 years, announced earlier this year that he would step down.

Bizzell credited volunteers and supporters for helping carry his campaign through the eight-week runoff stretch.

“We had a lot of people who worked really hard,” Bizzell said. “Now we just have to remember that we don’t just represent the people we agree with — we have to represent the entire island. My first step is making sure everyone feels like their voices are heard.”
