Most Pittsburgh votes go to Democrats in PA primary election 2026

Pittsburgh residents cast their votes in Pennsylvania's primary election on May 19, making way for numerous incumbents and several new leaders in state positions in the upcoming November general election.

Allegheny County residents overwhelmingly cast their votes for Democratic candidates, with Democrats scoring the most votes in 26 of 27 key races and confirming who will run in the Nov. 3 general election. Most notably, voters backed Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro, who will attempt to win a second term this fall, while several newcomers won enough votes to potentially unseat incumbents as state representatives in the general election.

Voter turnout was relatively low, with 22.7% of Allegheny's 915,194 registered voters casting their votes, according to the county. In total, there were 207,755 ballots cast.

Here are the unofficial results in key races in Allegheny County as of May 20 morning, with 1,322 of 1,327 precincts reporting. All candidate names in bold advance to the November general election; not every race had both a Democratic and Republican candidate.
