Chester County hires firm for independent investigation of election gaffe

WEST CHESTER — The Chester County Commissioners held a nearly six-hour hearing Monday to review more than 1,400 provisional ballots that had procedural errors.

The commissioners — Republican Eric Roe, and Democrats Josh Maxwell and Marian Moskowitz — all voted against allowing unsigned ballots in secrecy envelopes to be counted.

However, when it came to three other measures, Democrats Maxwell and Moskowitz voted in favor of allowing ballots to be counted. One measure allowed ballots to be counted as long as they contained at least one voter’s signature per ballot. Provisional voters are expected to sign their ballots twice.

Maxwell said Chester County was ensuring no one was disenfranchised by counting the ballots with valid voter signatures.
