Teacher shortages reported in most Pennsylvania counties

A report from Pennsylvania education advocates points to dire teacher shortages across the commonwealth, finding that most counties are suffering from severe or extremely severe staffing gaps in their schools.

The analysis from Teach Plus Pennsylvania and a coalition of other groups looked at teacher certification numbers, hard-to-staff subject areas and emergency permits across Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

About 45 counties are experiencing shortfalls ranked as "severe" or "extremely severe," according to the report.

“Pennsylvania is in the midst of a teacher shortage crisis,” Laura Boyce, Teach Plus executive director, said in a statement. “Every county is feeling the harm of not having enough teachers in the classroom.”

My story:

BA in history and political science majors with a minor in economics.
M.Ed in Educational Leadership
20 years experience
International curricula experience in four countries, curricula that makes most state education curricula look like education for idiots (IB and CIE are much more rigorous)
9 years administration experience
Fully certified in Arizona

Moved to PA

Applied to transfer my AZ cert. Rejected because:
1: No reciprocity between AZ and PA. i guess full faith and credit don't apply to teacher license.
2: Didn't complete a PA certified teacher preparation program and was told I need to do everything I did 20 years ago all over again.

Took almost four months and had no appeal. PA DoE pretty much told me to go F myself. Cost: $360 plus all the background checks.

Applied to transfer my AZ cert to Ohio.
1: Approved in four weeks with no problems.
2: On Hold for my principal cert until I take the state exam.

Took almost four weeks. Cost: $220 for both certs and all the background checks.

PA caused this problem and the PA government doesn't care. The PA DoE is hostile to everyone, including PA educated teachers. I have limited sympathy for this worthless bureaucracy.
