Steubenville prepares for busy election day with charter revisions on ballot

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Steubenville is gearing up for a busy election day, with a larger-than-usual ballot featuring charter revisions that haven't been addressed in more than a decade.

Mayor Jerry Barilla oversees the commission responsible for studying and updating these charters.

"It is a little bit complicated because the length of it, and there's been some consideration to instead of waiting 10 years to do it maybe every 5. Years basically you can do it in 2 years, 5 years, or 10. It's been tradition to do it every 10, so that's why it's so long because of that 10-year span," Barilla said.

The revisions cover various issues, including the structure and operation of the city government.
