North Carolina's Weather Authority Report on Duke Energy Request

From North Carolina's Weather Authority

Wow, this kinda of crazy to see during our heat wave, which is not super uncommon. However, Duke Energy requested yesterday from the Department of Energy temporary authorization to run power plants at full capacity if needed, even if it exceeds standard permit limits, to prevent power outages. They were granted the request, which is partly related to drought, as hydroelectric generation has been reduced due to low water flow from the lakes and other power generation issues.

This is a last resort measure to prevent rolling blackouts across the Carolinas due to the heat wave.
