SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) Scotland County authorities have charged four people in a human-trafficking investigation that led to the arrests of two of the suspects in Myrtle Beach and Nevada.
Carl Edward Campbell and Donald Meicht and Wanda Newlin, all of Laurinburg, are in the Scotland County Detention Center. Anna Marie Henning was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is awaiting extradition to Scotland County.
The arrests come after the sheriffs offices special victims unit recently uncovered human-trafficking activity during a follow-up investigation into a March 2025 report from Adult Protective Services that Campbell allegedly was involved in a sexual relationship with a 20-year-old woman with mental disabilities. Arrest warrants for all four suspects indicate the alleged crime took place on April 1, 2024.
Campbell and Meicht are charged with human trafficking of an adult victim; involuntary servitude involving an adult victim; sexual servitude involving an adult victim; second-degree forcible rape; second-degree forcible sexual offense; exploitation of a disabled person; and felony conspiracy. They were each given $5 million secured bonds.
