Two charged for driving over election signs in Clifton

CLIFTON— State Police have arrested two men who allegedly drove over election signs in the town of Clifton.

William J. Patterson, 71, of Ogdensburg, and Christopher J Backus, 56, of Harrisville, were both charged with one count third-degree criminal tampering (B misdemeanor), State Police say.

According to State Police, Patterson and Backus were charged following investigation of a complaint that election signs for the Clifton Town Supervisor campaign had been damaged on Tooley Pond Road.

An investigation revealed that Backus and Patterson were responsible for the damage, having allegedly run over the signs repeatedly with their vehicles.
