Sharon Owens wins Democratic primary for Syracuse mayor

Sharon Owens won the Democratic primary for Syracuse mayor Tuesday, making her highly likely to be the first Black mayor of Syracuse.

Owens secured an overwhelming victory over her two Democratic opponents, common councilors Pat Hogan and Chol Majok.

Just before 10:45 p.m., Owens gave a victory speech to supporters at Attilio’s Restaurant on James Street. Hogan called Owens to concede.

Owens earned 62% of the vote, according to unofficial Election Day results. Hogan took 23% and Majok earned 15%.
