New York residents, as well as Americans across the U.S., need to finally get their hands on a REAL ID before the deadline for legislation passes.
After this date, you will not be able to fly without a passport. Less than half of the U.S. population has a passport, so if you don't have one and want to fly, it's imperative to get a REAL ID. It may also invalidate your driver's license.

(13,610 posts)With an inordinate (although probably predictable) amount of foot dragging, delay, extensions - and other can kicking. Although originally passing through Congress as a security measure with fairly overwhelming support.
But with the aforementioned multiple 'delays' - bringing us to current date - 20 years on - and a whole lot of people saying, "What, When .. ?" and, "I don't understand .. "
