Mimms will seek third term in Paterson

Dr. Lilisa Mimms has announced her intention to seek re-election to an at-large seat on the Paterson City Council.

Mimms, the council president, was elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. She has previously served on the Paterson Board of Education.

“There is still important work ahead, and I’m committed to continuing the progress we’ve made together,” Mimms said. “I’ll keep fighting for a more vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking community.”

There has been speculation that Mimms would run for mayor had incumbent Andre Sayegh decided to challenge Rep. Nellie Pou (D-North Haledon) in the Democratic primary instead. Sayegh is now preparing for a third term.
