Hudson sheriff union endorses Jimmy Davis (D) over incumbent
Hudson County Sheriffs Superiors Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #127 has endorsed Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis for sheriff in his Democratic primary challenge against incumbent Frank Schillari.
Our members have dedicated their careers to protecting this county with integrity and professionalism. Under Jimmy Davis leadership, we believe they will finally have the respect and support they deserve, the union said in its endorsement. His vision will restore pride in the badge and bring back a sense of purpose thats been missing for far too long.
The endorsement is a sharp rebuke to a five-term incumbent who began working as the undersheriff in 1997 when Joseph Cassidy was in office. Hudson County Democrats dropped one-term incumbent Juan Perez from the county line in 2010 and replaced him with Schillari, who won the general election by a 65%-32% margin against Perez, who had switched parties and ran as a Republican.
As a lifelong member of law enforcement, it disturbs me greatly to hear that this tremendous group of law enforcement professionals feel they have not been afforded the support they deserve from Sheriff Schillari. The County Sheriffs Office leadership has seemingly lost the respect of the people under their command due to lack of leadership, said Davis. If I am elected, that will change on day one. As your Sheriff, I commit to having these fine officers do what they do best, make our roads safer, protect our courts, and protect our residents.
Davis, who has the support of the Hudson County Democratic organization, has also been endorsed by PBA Local 7 and the Police Superior Officers Association. He was elected mayor of Bayonne in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and 2022.
