Uber-backed PAC will spend over $1 million in N.J. in 2025

Uber will launch a New Jersey political action committee with a plan to spend over $1 million to highlight insurance costs for transportation network companies and support candidates who support making ride-share prices more affordable.

“With state-mandated insurance costs now amounting to nearly 35% of the rider fare, rideshare is becoming increasingly out-of-reach for the millions of New Jerseyans who rely on for-hire vehicles to get around,” said Freddi Goldstein, an Uber spokesperson. “We’re launching A Fair and Affordable NJ to raise awareness of this issue and support politicians who will stand up for more affordable rides.”

The new Uber PAC has still not decided if they will spend directly in the governor’s race, the New Jersey Globe has learned.

New Jersey’s insurance costs and requirements for ride-share drivers are the most expensive in the nation. As of February, about one-third of Uber fares went to cover insurance costs that average about $7.50 per trip. Uber covers the insurance for drivers and passes those costs on to passengers.

Do they have characteristics? MA and NJ sometimes they don't stop for stop signs.

"Jersey driver" was always an epithet in my household, but I've seen some maneuvers from NY and several other northeast and mid-Atlantic states as well. VA guy blew past me doing the speed limit last week, blowing his horn as he passed on the double yellow and doing about 75.
