Missouri
Related: About this forumI understand there were at least two earthquakes in Missouri today.
I don't have a link handy, but read that there were a couple in the New Madrid zone, magnitude 1.4 and 2.0. I didn't feel them, but they were 300 miles from me--a lot closer to St. Louis and Cape girardeau. No damage reported, and no injuries. Pretty minor.
Maybe we need to hold an earthquake drill; I'll hide under my desk, but I'm not coming out in case there are aftershocks.

I felt nothing.
This time, it's not my fault!

(29,333 posts)2. I experienced earthquakes originating from the New Madrid fault
and I was over 200 miles away. Seismic waves travel through the sediment layers in that region with little to impede their travel.
