Peggy Flanagan: Minnesotans stood up to Donald Trump. Their next senator should, too.

Over the past several months, I’ve traveled across Minnesota and heard from people still living with the impact of Operation Metro Surge. Parents talk about their children’s trauma. Small business owners talk about the damage left behind. Families talk about neighbors who disappeared and communities that still haven’t recovered.

I’m a Minnesotan. It’s not in our nature to pick fights. But what happened during Operation Metro Surge changed a lot of people. Minnesotans saw what happens when leaders fail to stand up to Donald Trump. For many, that experience clarified who they want in a U.S. senator: someone who will stand up and fight when it matters most, not after the damage is already done.

That’s why, with early voting for the Aug. 11 primary underway, it’s important to talk about one of the clearest differences between U.S. Rep. Angie Craig and me.

(snip)

Educators, nurses, parents, faith leaders, students and neighbors came together to protect one another. We packed groceries, made sure kids got home, marched by the thousands to demand ICE get out of Minnesota. No one asked to be on the front lines, but Minnesotans stepped up anyway. We lived through those moments together. We will never forget what happened. And we know who stood up when it mattered.

=============

I read this oped with interest. I am puzzled, though, that the whole piece is about the ICE atrocities and about Craig.

I was looking to find comments about why is she running for the senate. What are her plans for the country and for Minnesota. Especially the needs of rural Minnesotans and farmers. How they have suffered from the tariff and from the inflation. What about shortage of hospitals there. The involvement of Private Equity in healthcare as detailed here:

At least if you are going to have an oped in the strib under the headline US SENATE you should provide enough space for your plans once you get there.
