Taylor race for mayor, council heats up over towing contract

Taylor Mayor Tim Woolley and former city councilman Herman 'Butch' Ramik will square off against each other in November in the race for mayor of Downriver's largest city.

Woolley got 70.86% of the vote while Ramik got 17.95%, according to fully reporting Wayne County results. The two other mayoral candidates were Timothy Long, who got 6.7% and David Mortensen, who got 4.49%. In the race for Taylor treasurer, Amira Garza got 44% of the vote and Nicone Dragone got 31%; the two will compete against each other in November.

Martin Drouillard and Tedario Edmond were eliminated in the race for city council, receiving the fewest votes among 16 council candidates. The top 14 vote-getters will advance to the November election for seven council seats. Taylor currently has only six city council members because a vacant position has not been filled for more than a year.

A lot of the campaigning this year has focused on a controversy over towing contracts.
