O'Connor (D) takes insurmountable lead in Frederick mayoral election

Democratic Mayor Michael O'Connor has built a lead of more than 6,000 votes over Tom Trott, his Republican opponent, with about 1,500 ballots left to count in Frederick's municipal election.

Democrats also have large leads in the contested races for two of the seven City Council seats.

Election officials counted about 4,700 ballots on Thursday, the first day of counting ballots since Election Day on Tuesday. They counted more than 5,000 additional ballots on Friday, for a total of approximately 10,000 across the two days.

That's in addition to the approximately 2,400 ballots cast in person on Election Day and on two early voting days in October.
