Low turnout expected as early voting begins for judicial election and tax renewal

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - As early voting gets underway for an off-cycle election in Baton Rouge, pollsters are predicting a low voter turnout, consistent with similar elections.

Louisiana political pollster Bernie Pinsonat explains, “Elected officials keep having these elections when there is no other election, so how would you expect people to care about something that they don’t care what’s going on literally.”

This election cycle features a contest for a vacant seat at the 19th Judicial District Court, where four Democratic candidates are vying for the position.

Pinsonat emphasizes the significance of the race. “They’re important, you want to put the best people on the bench, they decide the future of somebody’s life with their decisions,” he said. “Competent judges are extremely important to democracy.”
