Petition Filed to Force Special Election for Floyd County Supervisor Seat
he Floyd County Board of Supervisors is being asked to consider a petition to force a special election for the District 2 seat on the Floyd County Board of Supervisors, a position recently filled by the appointment of Josh Neupert.
Former District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer passed away in June. On July 7th, a committee consisting of County Auditor Morrigan Montagne, County Recorder Amy Assink, and County Treasurer Jessie Holm selected Neupert to succeed Keifer. Other candidates who applied for the post included Doug Linderman, David Bahe, Aaron Hobart and former Floyd County Treasurer Frank Rottinghaus.
Despite the appointment of Neupert, any eligible voter in District 2 could file a petition to force a special election. The petition needed at least 257 signatures from within the district and be filed within 14 days of the appointment.
The deadline was Monday (07.21), but Robert Carey submitted a petition last Thursday (07.17) to the auditors office with 320 signatures, 63 more than required. The petition is being reviewed for signature verifications, which includes elimination of any duplicate signatures, with the petition and possible special election on the agenda for Tuesdays (07.22) regular Board of Supervisors meeting at 9 am.
