Special election to be held in March following Buchanan mayor's conviction in deadly 2015 crash

BUCHANAN, Ga. — The City of Buchanan plans to hold a special election in six months after its mayor, Anthony Scott, was recently convicted in a deadly crash that happened in 2015.

The city shared on its Facebook page that a special election will be held in March 2026 to fill the remaining term for the mayoral seat.

Seventeen-year-old Kylie Lindsey and 16-year-old Isabella Chinchilla were killed on Sept. 26, 2015, when Scott’s patrol car slammed into their vehicle on Highway 27 near Bremen. Scott was a Georgia State trooper at the time. Two others were also seriously injured.

In a retrial, the jury found Scott guilty on all counts except one — second-degree vehicular homicide in the death of Lindsey.
